Thursday Thirteen - Green Living

Thirteen Things about Katrina

Thirteen Things I do to try and live more "Green"

1. I cloth diaper
2. I switched to "mama cloth"
3. We recycle all paper, plastic and glass
4. We compost all food waste
5. I dry my laundry outside when weather permits
6. I have been replacing chemical based home cleaners with natural, earth friendly ones using staples such as white vinegar, baking soda and borax.
7. We don't buy bottled water. We drink water from our well that is run through a reverse osmosis system that does not use electricity.
8. We use dimmers on all ceiling lights and energy efficient light bulbs in our lamps.
9. I use reusable canvas shopping bags and mesh vegetable bags
10. I make my own laundry detergent
11. I buy from the perimeter of the grocery store, avoiding over packaged and processed items.
12. I run all my errands once a week to avoid unnecessary driving
13. We plant a vegetable garden each summer in order to grow our own produce.

Great list. I can't imagine how you make your own laundry detergent.

We recycle as much as possible and use energy efficient light bulbs, though it has been my understanding that you can't use them with dimmers.

Unfortunately, you can't use the energy efficient light bulbs we can buy here in the US with dimmers. They do make them, and I have heard you can purchase them in Canada. I am hoping that within time, they will be reasonably priced here in the US as well.
